🖍️ Tools For Success

  • Paper (Our Free How To Draw Template PDF)
  • Pencil
  • Polymer Eraser
  • Outline Markers
  • Coloring Tools (I recommend Crayola's 140 Piece Coloring Case)

🎨 Parents:The only tools you need to use these how-to-draw tutorials are: an eraser, a pencil, and a piece of paper. But – if you have them around – a sketching pencil makes for fainter and softer lines that help kids build fine motor accuracy. I also recommend going over the sketch pencil with a black outline marker when you're done for a neater finish. Lastly, erase the pencil marks before adding color.

Step-by-Step Guide on How to Draw a Kitten

  1. Draw an oval face in a slanting position with triangular ears on each side for a cute kitten's head.
  2. Highlight the triangular ears by drawing one smaller triangle inside each.
  3. For the kitten's face, draw two small circular eyes parallel to each other.
  4. Between the eyes, draw a small inverted triangular nose with two short curved mouth lines beneath it.
  5.  On the right side of the kitten's face, connect a line making a semi-circular body but leaving a small space to the lower part of the kitten's face.
  6. Then, beneath the face, draw two curved feet to fill out the space between the face and the body.
  7. Draw two short vertical lines on each foot to highlight the toes.
  8. To finally complete the details, draw an enclosed S-shaped tail on the other end of the body.
  9. Now the kitten's perfectly cute! You can color it according to your favorite color, but I'll color mine orange just like momma Cat!!

Cool Kitten Facts for Kids

  • Kitten's eyes open at around 1 week of age, but they can't see or hear until they're 2-3 weeks old.
  • Kittens come in litters of 1 to 19, the largest size recorded was 19.
  • Kittens do nothing but sleep and eat, in fact, they sleep around 18 hours a day!
  • Cats are amazing for their sense of smell and flexibility; this is also the case with kittens. Kittens can fit their bodies into tight spaces, they can fit their bodies anywhere their heads can fit.
  • Kittens may be right-or left-pawned, just like humans are right-handed or left-handed.
  • Kittens are born with blue eyes and will have a fully developed eye color at around 8 weeks of age.
  • When kittens are born smell is one of their only senses and allows them to find the nipple to nurse or to know when danger is close.
  • It's as cute as it sounds, kitten ear wiggling is a sign that they are nursing well. Kittens at a very young age need to be nursed every 2 hours, similar to human babies.
  • A group of cats is called a "clowder."
  • One of the first things you'll notice when you look at the face of a kitten is its whiskers. Kittens are small little creatures, but the whiskers are pretty impressive.
  • Nature's little warning machines, did you know baby kittens sometimes chew off their sibling's whiskers to demonstrate dominance? Some mommy cats do it too as a warning.
  • For some reason, short-haired kittens open their eyes on the earlier side than long-haired kittens.
  • When a kitten is born, one thing that it will do very well is purr. You will also hear brand new kittens purr the first time they've been nursing with mom.
  • Even the heaviest kittens only weigh about the same as a small lemon.
  • When kittens are still in their minor stage of development, they cannot produce and maintain body heat like adult mammals.
  • In addition to all the adorable squeaks, the kittens learn to meow shortly after birth. It's their way of interacting with Mom and letting her know that they're hungry.
  • After that, cats in general meow to communicate with their human "owners." Cats don't really meow to communicate with each other.
